The Motionmetrix 3D system is a cutting-edge technological innovation that makes biomechanical assessment available to everyone. Until very recently, this could only be carried out in laboratories dedicated to scientific research, requiring a great deal of time and incurring very high costs.

This is the first system in this field that does not require the placement of joint markers, thus simplifying all the preparation for the test and reducing the possibility of errors caused by the manual placement of joint markers.

This technology is suitable for all levels, from elite athletes to amateur athletes and everyone starting to run.

The Motionmetrix 3D technology is based on a three-dimensional video recording of the athlete running on a treadmill at a speed that can be adjusted to their individual ability, without any special preparation, as joint markers are automatically detected during the movement.

The assessment process itself takes approximately 3 minutes and analyses 60 performance, movement, and joint loading markers, using various bilateral and segmental analysis parameters. The athlete immediately receives an mp4 video file containing the recording of the test in their email inbox, which can be viewed in slow motion from various angles, with real-life footage, vectors, or a reconstructed virtual skeleton. In addition to this video, a PDF file is generated containing all the individual analysis graphs and parameters.

Finally, the specialist technician who carries out the assessment sits down with the athlete to analyse deviations from elite standards by comparing them with more than 600 tests at different speeds, which form part of the system's database.

At a later stage, the necessary corrective exercises should be recommended and personalised training sessions implemented to put them into practice.

Two key areas of intervention are clearly identified through the use of the Motionmetrix 3D system. The area of performance or athletic performance, which, through the analysis of various parameters, allows coaches to prescribe specific exercises and routines to improve what was detected as performance parameters falling outside elite reference ranges. Examples of these include trunk lean, foot strike pattern, propulsive force, lateral deviations, and many others.

The second area is injury prevention and the detection of any underlying reasons that may cause an athlete to systematically injure themselves while training for running. Precise information about angular deviations and bilateral differences helps prescribe forms of intervention to improve performance, whether by the coach or by specialists in the relevant field.

Compared with biomechanical assessment systems designed for cycling, the differences are striking. While intervention using the Motionmetrix 3D system is entirely athlete-focused, with training-related recommendations, cycling assessment systems primarily guide intervention on equipment and hardware, attempting to adapt it to the cyclist.

We are therefore talking about a tool with direct and immediate training applications, which allows the implementation of complementary exercises to improve running immediately after the assessment. Finally, comparing several assessment moments by overlaying them allows you to check whether the exercises performed between two assessments achieved the desired effect.

The Motionmetrix system has been available in Portugal since September 2018 and is distributed exclusively by Ontrisports across mainland Portugal and the islands.
