Recovery after a competition

Recovery after a competition is one of the most important aspects of training. Competing is generally the pinnacle of the entire training process, and the faster the recovery, the sooner the preparation process for the next competition can begin, decisively influencing the time between each competition and the number of competitions you can perform at a good level during the season. Several factors have been identified that influence recovery after a competition, and we have listed below the 10 that we consider most important:

  1. The distance of the competition, knowing that it is much faster to recover after 5km than after a marathon;
  2. The level of preparation with which you approach the competition;
  3. The level of effort in the competition;
  4. The course/profile of the Competition;
  5. The ambient temperature during the competition, with the levels of dehydration reached due to high temperatures and humidity percentages being the factors that delay recovery the most;
  6. The quality and suitability of the equipment used, especially regarding shoes;
  7. Nutrition during and after the competition;
  8. The number of competitions already completed, knowing that with fewer accumulated competitions you have more freshness to recover more quickly;
  9. Innate and genetic conditions regarding injury prevention;
