The evaluation of body composition includes the study of various body constituents (muscle mass, body water, among others), in addition to body fat, which is very associated with the evaluation or diagnosis of obesity. The different body constituents have an impact on health and performance, especially in sports where the athlete/practitioner has to support/carry his own body mass (his weight). The evaluation of the body composition of athletes/practitioners allows the obtaining of information about the athlete’s profile, morphology and nutritional status.
The detailed information on the body composition of athletes that allows to measure the momentary level of their performance and development potential, but also allows to identify needs and opportunities for intervention in order to improve performance, but also the athlete/practitioner’s own health. The assessment of body composition performed repeatedly over time will also allow monitoring the effect of training, as well as different training and nutritional needs throughout the sports season as well as states of form at different times.
